Delaware Valley at Wallenpaupack (2010 Varsity)

On Friday, November 05 2010 at 7 p.m., the DV Warriors lost to Wallenpaupack by a score of 17 - 18.

Our final game of the regular season was against the Wallenpaupack Buckhorns. Over the years a strong rivalry has grown between these neighboring school districts, but the competition is probably most fierce between the football teams.

TV-13's Big Game Lou Rusnock, chose, not just a player, but the entire Warrior defense, as his pick for the "Friday Night Game Breaker".

Wallenpaupack always seems to be one of the coldest games of the season, and the fans were bundled up in the bleachers as the Captains took the field.
DV wins the coin toss and defers to receive until the second half.

The Warrior defense refuses to give ground and the Bucks are forced to punt.
DV has no trouble moving the ball. Bryan Schor completes a pass to Connor Decker for a big gain. Schor follows up with a completion to FB Adam Manzoni who is brought up just short of the endzone. A few plays later and our own, Chris Cohen is in to score for DV. Joe Hunts kicks the extra point.

Del Val is on the move again, as Schor completes a 20 yd TD pass to TE Connor Decker. The extra point is good and the Warriors lead 14-0.

Play is intense and physical between the two teams. On the Warriors next possession, the ball is stripped and is recovered by Will McLaughlin who takes it in for a touchdown. The extra point is no good.

Penalty after penalty have the Warriors facing 1st and 29.
The rivalry between the teams has emotions running high and more penalty calls on Wallenpaupack give the Warriors an automatic 1st down. With good field position, Joe Hunt is called in to kick a field goal. He makes it and the Warriors enter the half up 17-6.

The second half of the game plays out much differently.
Wallenpaupack has a successful drive downfield for a TD, but the extra point is no good.

A fumble in the backfield by DV is recovered by Frank Bruno. With 3 minutes left to play, Wallenpaupack QB, Will Hendel completes a 44 yd TD pass to McLaughlin. The extra point is no good and Wallenpaupack is on top 18-17.

DV needs to score but Schors pass is intercepted by McLaughlin and the Buckhorns take over with just over a a minute left to play.
Hendel takes a knee to run out the clock and Wallenpaupack wins by one.
Final score DV 17 Wallenpaupack 18.

The loss to Wallenpaupack puts DV seeded at #8 in the District Play Offs.
